You don't mention using any modchip or even a softmod method to boot the burned CD, which is something an unmodded PS2/PStwo console is unable to do. You need at least a soft mod, such as SwapMagic discs, or FMCB+ESR installed to MC. SwapMagic is a commercial product ready to use as-is, while FMCB and ESR are homebrew freewares that require installation to your MC, which can be tricky if you don't already have some software to run homebrews. But ARMax is supposedly able to handle such installation (depends on your ARMax version).

You can find lots more info on FMCB, ESR, and related subjects in the subforum for "FreeVAST" (old name of FMCB == Free McBoot), and this is found inside the forum for Homebrew/Dev stuff.
